AOC seminar

Art of Coding, the initiative around enlisting the demoscene as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage as first digital culture ever, is gearing up for the next phase. Based on the successes in Finland, Germany and Poland from 2020 on, and with activists working on next steps in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and a few more countries, it´s time to look further down the road on the next phase starting the preparations for the international application. As that´s what its supposed to be from the beginning according of the realities and identity of the demoscene as transnational culture and community. Join us for a discussion on the next steps in the next 5+ years to come, as we want to include all voices possible and also will need a lot of help, from community to communications to website to potentially fundraising for travel and documentation and translation for the years to come.
Bad Apple - A journey though cider and related drinks.
reality404
Since Adam and Eve the apple has had a close relationship with humanity. This seminar will focus manly on the vast history of cider in England. Expect to learn about apple varieties, methods of making cider and of course try some cider/related drinks. Allergy concerns: This seminar may include alcoholic drinks made from apples, pears, barely, grapes, quince, cherries, wheat, sugar and yeast. This seminar is strictly 18 and over.
Coding for the new GMod cartridges for the C64
Jens Schönfeld
Since it's inception for Sam's Journey, GMod2 has taken the C64 cartridge world by storm: 512k is plenty for a C64 title, and saving high scores on the cart is giving titles a real console feeling. Many authors, publishers and even copycats have jumped on the train and are making GMod2-compatible hardware. However, component shortages and 5V technology being phased out for good means that it won't be economically viable to produce GMod2 in the future. In this seminar, the current flash technologies will be shown, and how to adapt them to retro computers such as the C64 hardware-wise. Options for new pieces of hardware will be discussed from the C64 software (=register-level) point of view.

WatchLive-Coding at Revision 2023
Friday, 2023-04-07 CEST
Shader Showdowns are a high-energy, graphically impressive competitive visual livecoding contest. Since its inception in 2013 at WeCan, the Shader Showdown format has grown in popularity amongst different demoparties across the world and Revision in particular. Two programmers facing off live on stage to code GLSL shader effects from scratch with no outside assistance with a DJ supporting them with pumping beats. The crowd gets to watch both shaders evolve in parallel on the big screen, enjoying the action and cheering on the participants. The objective is simple: At the end of the 25 minutes, whoever gets more cheers from the spectators wins. During the years of the pandemic the demoscene live coding community took the concept online and widened the possible formats to include more simultaneous participants, possibility of remote collaborations, the concept of laidback jam sessions (without the stress of getting voted out) and even using new environments like the TIC80 fantasy console. At this Revision, we’ll have 3 live coding events open for participation: 3-way Shader Showdown (live presence) TIC80 jam session (live presence) Shader Royale VJ session (live and remote) 3-WAY SHADER SHOWDOWN Bracket elimination tournament with rounds of 3 contestants per round (instead of the usual 2 contestants per round). Same rules as the traditional Shader Showdown: Every battle lasts 25 minutes, and you have to write all code from scratch. All code has to be written in GLSL using the latest version of BONZOMATIC A set of textures will be provided for each round. The computers will default to EN-US keymap - if you need something specific, let us know beforehand. Competitors are welcome to bring their own keyboard (without memory function). Semi-finals will take place on Friday, the final on Saturday. Commentators will be discussing and explaining your code during the sessions while a DJ is playing some pumping beats. TIC80 JAM SESSION Before the Shader Showdown final on Saturday we will host a 1 hour livecode jam session on the main stage where participants can use the TIC80 fantasy console programming environment (special fork version with an FFT function to respond to sound). The session is open to anyone who can code LUA, you can bring a friend to help you and even swap out with someone else from the audience if you are out of ideas. Low pressure live coding just for fun. SHADER ROYALE VJ SESSION On Saturday between compo blocks DJ h0ffman will play a flaming hot set to keep people entertained. As visuals for his set we will host a massive shader royale jam session where anyone in the world from the active demoscene live coding community watching remotely, or even present at the party place using their own laptops, can join coding visuals in GLSL using the latest version of Bonzomatic. Expect dozens of participants live-coding their shaders, you can use any previous material you have previously prepared or just code something from scratch. You can also leave at any moment, and we will just keep showing the latest version of your shader before you left the session. The creations will be shown on rotation at the big screen throughout the DJ set. OPEN CALL FOR COMPETITORS We’re looking for volunteers to participate in all of these events! To participate please send an e-mail to the Revision hotline address or contact ps directly (psenough#2969 on discord).

WatchBehind the Scenes Tours
Saturday, 2023-04-08 CEST
If you'd like to take a look behind the scenes to find out where all the orga magic happens, there will be Q&A tours of various orga areas held by the responsible organizers. Prior sign-up for these is not necessary - the times they will take place can be found in the timetable and the start of each tour will also be announced at the party place individually. Meetup point for each tour will be the infodesk. Watch out for a person holding an orange flag! (Only exception is the “Seminars, Recording, Postprocessing” tour - go to the seminar room directly!) Information: for the Beamteam tour, two slots are offered, as the space at their working area is quite limited. So, if you can’t catch a spot one the first tour, there’s a second chance.
